Intelligence is Unlimited
Much is heard in the educational world of to-day about intelligence quotients, or, in other words, the measuring of intelligence. But can true intelligence be measured? Is there in reality any limit to true mental capacity? A careful study of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, together with an equally careful study of the Scriptures, reveals the fact that divine intelligence is infinite.
Let us here consider a few of the many quotations from the Bible, and also from Science and Health, that may be cited to throw light upon this question. In Genesis we read, "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him;" and again, "And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." Also, in Psalms we find, "Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite."
One of the terms for God given by Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health (p. 465) is "infinite Mind;" and it must be remembered that Mrs. Eddy gained her understanding of Christian Science through revelation and the spiritual understanding of the Bible. If, then, man is made in God's likeness, the real man reflects the one infinite Mind. In answer to the question, "Is there more than one God or Principle?" Mrs. Eddy says (ibid.): "There is not. Principle and its idea is one, and this one is God, omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent Being, and His reflection is man and the universe. Omni is adopted from the Latin adjective signifying all. Hence God combines all-power or potency, all-science or true knowledge, all-presence. The varied manifestations of Christian Science indicate Mind, never matter, and have one Principle."
