Some twenty-three years ago I underwent two surgical operations for an internal trouble of many years' standing. Successful results did not follow from these operations. I was healed through reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and explanations from a student of Christian Science. I employed no material remedies at all. Since then I have had two illnesses, one of which was rather severe. Both of these were overcome with the help of Christian Science practitioners, each of whom helped me on a different occasion. For these two friends I am indeed grateful.
Some years later, through sickness and loss of those dear to me, I went through deep waters of affliction. This left me alone and full of fear for the future. Gradually I began to realize through God's divine guidance that these conditions were disappearing, and that I had found happiness amidst new and different surroundings. The fact that I realized God was guiding me during the time of these trials gave me a great sense of security, and afterwards, when problems presented themselves, I remembered with gratitude how I had been protected.
A great deal of my life had been spent in a worldly atmosphere, relying entirely on material means and ways. These failed in every instance, culminating in the operations which I underwent. Then through Christian Science came the revelation of what could be accomplished by turning entirely to God for divine help. I realized that physical healing was only one part of the blessings and benefits received, for one could apply this teaching to all one's problems—whether involving financial difficulties, inharmonious relationships, or other limitations. Class teaching, for which I am very grateful, taught me the impersonality of evil. It has been a great joy to me whenever I have been able to help others, and I have seen many instances of friends finding their right occupation, their right environment, success in examinations, and so on. Recently through study of Mrs. Eddy's writings I overcame an attack of influenza in two days, and have had the experience of painless dentistry.
