[Written for the Sentinel]

Prayer

Why plead for human sense of things
Of Him who cares for all His own,
To whom man's every want is known?

We ask of Thee, dear Lord, instead,
For wisdom to discern Thy will;
Thy purpose, too, in us fulfill!

As aspiration soars above
The mist of misconception drear,
Appears the selfhood God holds dear.

The self that knows nor want, nor fear,
Already has what God ordains,
And feels most clearly that He reigns.

No need for supplication now;
Discernment opens wide the door
To God's rich, omnipresent store.
