A recent issue of your paper contained an account of a sermon delivered at the Baptist tabernacle in your city, wherein the minister is said to have criticized Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, for her statement: "Man is incapable of sin, sickness, and death" (Science and Health with key to the Scriptures, p. 475). Christian Science teaches that God, who is good, is, by His very nature, incapable of sin. Therefore, man, God's image and likeness, inherits from his creator only that which God Himself possesses. The Holy Bible states that God created all that exists. Surely no Christian believes that God created man a sinner, or that He created sin in order to tempt man to violate or transgress His spiritual law. John, the beloved disciple, expresses this so beautifully when he says, "Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God."
