Through an experience in mental surgery I had an opportunity, and privilege, of proving the healing power of Christian Science.

While attempting to cross a busy thoroughfare of this city, where street construction was under way, I fell and severely injured my ankle, breaking a bone in two places. For a few moments the pain was intense, and those who quickly gathered around me were voicing all the material beliefs which usually govern such an experience. However, I was able instantly to close my eyes to all mortal seeming. I refused to look at the foot, but declared constantly God's allness—the all-presence and all-power of Mind. I was unable to walk, but was very kindly assisted from the street intersection to the sidewalk, and after resting a few moments was taken home.

As soon as I was alone, I began to read the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and almost instantly the pain disappeared. The foot and ankle had swollen so badly that my shoe had been removed, so I made no further attempt to walk. I sat in a chair, not even elevating the foot from the floor; I did not bandage the ankle, or give it any attention. I simply continued to read and study earnestly for about three hours. It was then time to prepare for dinner and, later, to attend the Wednesday evening testimony meeting. I still did not look at the foot, but when I attempted to rise I had considerable difficulty in walking. However, I was able to do all that was necessary, to put on a shoe and to attend the services as usual.
