Many healings received through the study of Christian Science...
Many healings received through the study of Christian Science prompt me to add my testimony to those of the many rejoicing in a like certainty.
Suffering in many ways from a sick body, I received help and healing quickly upon seeking treatment from a Christian Science practitioner; but one condition, that of imperfect eyesight, for which I had worn special glasses for ten years, failed to respond. However, I continued to study and work. My watching for physical improvement practically ceased as I awakened to the truth that wrong thinking must be replaced by right thinking along all lines, and that this included watching the body not at all and guarding thought more.
After nine years of persistent study, I again asked for definite help on this problem. The practitioner asked if I ever took my glasses off for any part of the day. I vigorously said "No," because I looked and felt queer without them. Then I was gently asked if I would remove them for a few minutes. It seemed that right then I understood what the Bible means by the term "naked," for I felt as if I were casting aside that which had been a shield and defense to me. There had been a deep sense of injustice and resentment which I had carried since childhood, but which had been proudly concealed. I had hidden behind what I thought a jolly exterior, but the hurt remained. Now I saw that an honest student could do this no longer, but must cast off and not hide behind such an erroneous condition of thought. Taking the glasses off seemed to break my bondage, though for a few days there was work to be done. I found that I could go about among strangers and in my own room with growing ease; but dismay overtook me on meeting those whom I knew, my apprehension was so great that someone might notice the change. Finally a friend who was ill telephoned and asked if I would come and read to her, and forgetting the problem of self in the joy of giving I went and read all the afternoon with no thought of the glasses until she commented on the fact that I was without them. Then I could honestly and joyfully say that I did not need them any longer; and I have not needed them at all in the ten years that have passed since that time.
