[Written for the Sentinel]

Light

When Truth first sheds its light upon our path,
The light that leads to where the young child lay,
It finds us wrestling like the man of old;
Like him we, too, let go at break of day.

This light reveals to us the God of love,
Who changes not, and is of eyes so pure
Naught of iniquity can He behold;
And this light brings us peace and health and cure.

We see how needless all our sufferings are;
And oh! the joy to know that we are free,
To find that God is universal Love,
Love that embraces all humanity!
