Christian Science Testimonies

Some understanding of the beneficent works of Christian Science may be gained from testimonies of healing resulting from its ministry. These testimonies not only are heard at the Wednesday evening meetings held regularly in The Mother Church and all branch churches, but also appear in each issue of The Christian Science Journal and the Christian Science Sentinel; and they are proof that this new-old religion is fulfilling Jesus' command to "heal the sick."

During a year there are published in our periodicals about seven hundred testimonies selected from a much larger number received by the Editorial Department. Testimonies have been received from all over the United States of America, including Alaska, Hawaii, and the Philippine Islands; from Great Britain and Ireland and the British Dominions, notably from Australia, Canada, and New Zealand; from countries in North and South Africa, Isle of Trinidad, and far-way India; from the three Scandinavian countries and Holland, including the Dutch East Indies; from Cuba, Mexico, Panama; from three countries of South America; from Austria, Bulgaria, Esthonia, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Rumania, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey; and from China, Japan, and Persia. While the majority of the testimonies are written in the English language, a considerable number are translated from the French and German, and a few from the Swedish, Dutch, and Italian.

In no better way could the universality of the Christian Science movement be determined than by a survey of the different types of thought which have been attracted to Christian Science and healed by it. High and low, rich and poor—all alike offer their story, to be used in glorifying God before men, each telling in a different way of his struggle out of darkness into light. Testimonies have been received from representatives of practically all of the professions, including ministers, lawyers, teachers, doctors, druggists, artists, authors, musicians, actors, and from a great variety of artisans. The expressions of gratitude from nurses who have exchanged their former methods of caring for the sick for this more spiritual way have been unusual, both in number and in quality. Business-men, ranch owners, miners, farmers, sea captains, soldiers, sailors, and circus performers have also known and demonstrated this healing truth.
