The Longing to Bless

The longing to bless is an inherent part of our nature and cannot be stifled; it is a wellspring of good motives, which must bear good fruit. The good motive may often seem to be misunderstood by mankind; nevertheless it always enriches the heart in which it is born. And that heart will bear fruit, and there will be found receptive hearts that will be blessed by that which has thus been prepared.

Often through the purification which has come from having been misunderstood, a purer unselfed love has unfolded, and a deeper understanding of how to meet our brother's need more effectually has been gained. A poem by A. O. Vinje, set to music by Grief, contains the lines:
