From childhood I had been a sufferer from stomach trouble, which physicians said was due to nerve trouble. In addition to this, at the age of ten years I fell and injured my spine so badly that I was practically an invalid, being confined to my bed for long periods, and at one time was strapped to a board for eleven months. My dear parents tried everything that the physicians thought would help me, and thus spent all their means. At the age of eighteen I was taken to a hospital, and after being there three months the doctors said that only an operation on my spine would save me. I had been unconscious for nine days and unable to receive any food into my stomach, when a Protestant minister entered the hospital and stood by my bed repeating the Lord's Prayer. The words of Truth contained therein awakened me to consciousness, and I asked to go home. I told them I did not want an operation. This occurred on a Tuesday, and I went home on Saturday feeling much better.

However, frequent attacks occurred until nine years ago, when I was taken very ill with pain in my side. The doctor who was called rushed me to his office for an immediate operation. He said it was a severe case of appendicitis, and called all the members of my family. When my dear brother came in he asked me if I would like to try Christian Science. He had been healed by Christian Science after doctors had given him but a few days to live. He telephoned to a practitioner, and an absent treatment was lovingly given. I am very happy to state that in about ten minutes after treatment was asked for I was healed and arose from the operating table. The nurses and doctors refused to give me my clothing or assist me in dressing, but God gave me strength to dress myself; and as I walked out of the office door to take the elevator the amazed nurses and doctors turned on my mother and told her that if she allowed me to walk home they would hold her as a murderer. I did walk home. Mother and I cleared the house of medicines, disposing of more than a bushel basket full; and since that time Christian Science has been my only help. Needless to say, I started to study the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.

I have had many demonstrations of Truth's power for myself, my family, and others. I cannot express in words my thankfulness to Mrs. Eddy, who through her unselfed love gave to the world the Christian Science textbook, whereby we may learn how to apply Jesus' teaching to-day for every need. I also am grateful to the loving practitioner who worked for me at the births of our two children, when it was proved again that there is only one law, God's law; and this same ever operative law gave me relief from the stomach trouble that had followed me from childhood.
