God Is Good
After commencing the study of Christian Science we soon begin to realize that God really loves us and cares for us and wants us always to be happy and well, and that He does not—as we used to think—send us anything to make us sick, unhappy, or afraid. All the trouble in the world seems to have come about through believing in more than one cause or creator; for, in believing that, we straightway deny the omnipotence of the infinite God who made everything good!
Mrs. Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 398, 399), "Evil has no power, no intelligence, for God is good, and therefore good is infinite, is All." And once, when our Master was addressed by a certain ruler as "Good Master," the ruler was promptly corrected; for Jesus said to him, "Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God." These two references give one plenty of food for thought, as we see that both our way-shower and our Leader acknowledged God as infinite good.
Then, we must wake up and do our part if we are to be faithful witnesses to Truth, proving that good alone is real, and that evil, under whatever guise it seems to come to us, be it sickness, lack, dishonesty, resentment, or hatred, is not real or true, and has neither life, intelligence, nor power, since God, good, the only creator, never made it. Evil is an illusion of the so-called "carnal mind," which, as Paul says, "is enmity against God." Is the carnal mind real? Could God, infinite good, create an evil mind? No! God is the only Mind; and this divine Mind is reflected by man. Then it is only by persistent right thinking—thinking Godlike or good thoughts—that better health and morals can be manifested in our lives, and the seeming effects of belief in a mind apart from God grow less and less.
