It is with a sense of gratitude that I wish to add my testimony for the blessings of Christian Science. My first awakening, some ten years ago, came about as follows. I was reared and taught the Bible in an orthodox church, and I bought a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy merely to investigate what seemed to be so interesting to several of my acquaintances, all the time remembering that my father, who was a Quaker by birth, had possessed this book years ago. I had read it as a child but it had long been forgotten, as it had found very little consideration in the home. This time, however, it began to awaken some understanding, although creedal beliefs were alert to admit no new religion. The thought came to me that I could take what seemed to be reasonable and good and teach it to my Presbyterian Sunday School class, but much to my surprise it was not acceptable. There seemed to be no way for the old ideas to mix with this new-old truth which was slowly dawning in my consciousness, and it was with a sense of relief that I gave up my church relationship to move to another city.

It had never dawned on me before this time that Christian Science could heal disease; but in the new city there soon came a demand for physical aid, and as I had long before discarded medicine as useless, and a physician had prescribed an operation as necessary, which I had decided I did not want, after deliberating for days in doubt and distress I made up my mind to try Christian Science. Being a stranger and not knowing how to get in touch with a practitioner, I studied the city directory with the conviction that God always had guided me and if it were right for me to seek this aid, there must be the right one to give it to me. So I looked down the list of Christian Science practitioners and one name seemed to stand out more prominently than the others; and in a short time I found myself in the presence of a bright, interesting woman.

I told her quite frankly that I did not want to change my church, but I did want to see if I could be healed through Christian Science. One thing she said seemed to touch me closest: "Do you have faith in God?" Now that was one thing I was sure I did have; but I soon found that my old ideas of faith were fast vanishing and a broader vision of the meaning of the word was taking their place. With that one treatment the pain disappeared, and my health was soon regained. From that time on I took up the study of Christian Science in earnest.
