The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

PRETORIA, AFRICA (First Church).

Lecturer: Algernon Hervey Bathurst; introduced by Mrs. Mary Roberts, who said:—

Some time ago, when studying the Bible, I found in the second book of the Chronicles these words: "For a long season Israel hath been without the true God." As I read these words they pointed to the exact position in which I was before Christian Science was known to me. I was without a knowledge of the true God; and the law of God as I understood it seemed cruel and unjust, giving good only to take it away again. But that there is a true God who gives to all mankind a knowledge of Himself and His law, which knowledge heals sickness as well as sin, was proved to me by the study of Christian Science. Christ Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free;" and it has made me very free indeed.
