Helping to Make the Real Man Visible

ON page 189 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy says: "The human mortal mind, by an inevitable perversion, makes all things start from the lowest instead of from the highest mortal thought. The reverse is the case with all the formations of the immortal divine Mind. They proceed from the divine source; and so, in tracing them, we constantly ascend in infinite being."

In pondering this passage recently, a student of Christian Science received such an illuminating insight into the right development of the human race that for the first time she perceived clearly the vagueness and fallacious nature of the so-called evolution theory, which would have us believe that man sprang from matter and went on dully, blindly, unwittingly groping, blundering, stumbling toward the light, without ever realizing just how he was to get there. She perceived that, as the above passage brings out, man starts from the highest source, and that with this understanding each one may eliminate from his consciousness whatever is unlike good; in other words, may drop all that has been erroneously accepted as true through centuries of false thinking and acting.

The passage quoted above also makes clear how it is that the real man, being the image and likeness of Spirit, remains forever perfect, untouched by any belief of outward error, uncleanness, sin, disease, or discord of any sort; just as the diamond dug from the mine is untouched and unharmed, though covered by adhesions of unattractive foreign substances, and under the hand of the skilled artificer shines forth in all its beauty and splendor.
