Our Friends

EVERY Christian Scientist desires the right kind of companionship; and especially is this true of those who travel and have no permanent home. How often we hear it said, "Oh, I could make more progress spiritually if I had friends who were good Christian Scientists!" But our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, has already provided many friends for us.

We have our daily friend, The Christian Science Monitor, a clean-minded friend and a very versatile one, for it brings us the news—news of the good—from all over the world. It brings us joy and happiness also, and tells us of the success of others. It never condescends to gossip or condemnation.

Our Leader gave us another friend, to visit us every week. The Christian Science Sentinel is always a welcome visitor, for it brings with it the thought and demonstration of loyal Christian Scientists. We may sit down with them and read their sweet messages of love, and have hope poured into our waiting thought. What is it we love in a friend? Is it not his true thoughts? Mrs. Eddy tells us in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 82): "It is no more difficult to read the absent mind than it is to read the present. Chaucer wrote centuries ago, yet we still read his thought in his verse."
