This testimony is written in the hope that it will help some one situated as we are at present, so far from a Christian Science church that we cannot attend services, where a long-distance telephone call is necessary to get the help of a practitioner, and where not even a person in town, outside of our own family, so far as we know, is at all interested in Christian Science.
Recently, while cooking dinner, I dropped a large piece of meat into a pot of boiling greasy water, causing a large quantity of the water to splash into my face and eyes. The shock was so great that I seemed about to faint; but I immediately realized the protection of the divine presence so clearly that I did not lose consciousness. I could not, however, open my eyes, and the pain was so intense I could not clear my thought at once; but, covering my face with a towel, so that our daughter of eleven years, who was working with me, would see no evidence of injury, I mentally thanked God for the healing of faintness. In a few seconds I was able to open my eyes and continue to work. However, great pain seemed to be caused whenever the heat from the stove touched my face.
It was my duty to serve dinner promptly at twelve o'clock for the men who were employed on some construction work here, and I could not leave the kitchen to do any mental work. I knew our little daughter was helping by keeping fear out of her thought. Very soon our son, thirteen years old, came in, and I asked him also to help. He lovingly took up the work at once; and I served dinner on time. The best part was that only one person noticed the slight discoloration that showed.
