For some time I have wanted to express my gratitude for healings which have come to me through testimonies in the Sentinel and the Journal. I have been the recipient of many blessings from the study of Christian Science, and I wish to express my deep gratitude for the peace and happiness which have been received during many years' study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and all of the other writings of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy.
I first turned to Christian Science for healing when on a concert tour with a ladies' quartet. I was afflicted with relaxed vocal chords which prevented my filling my contract to do solo and ensemble work. My mother and my sister were students of Christian Science at the time, but I had been quite satisfied with what I gained from the church of which I was then a member. When I found myself in a small inland town not knowing where to turn for material aid, stubbornness, false pride, and hatred of what I thought Christian Science to be yielded to the desire to telegraph to my sister for treatment in Christian Science. This I did, and I received immediate help and was able to go on with my engagements. Many years have passed since then, but every problem which has been taken to Principle, divine Love, for solution, has been solved in the proportion that I have been faithful to the demands of Principle.
A few years ago I suffered for weeks with a severe attack of neuritis, which vanished when I was able to relinquish a strong sense of resentment that I had been holding; a very severe cold disappeared when I realized the truth of Mrs. Eddy's words in "Miscellaneous Writings" (pp. 223, 224), "The mental arrow shot from another's bow is practically harmless, unless our own thought barbs it," and set about to remove the barbs of self-pity and self-justification; gastritis of a most painful nature vanished as criticism and hate were replaced with love and forbearance.
