[Written for the Sentinel]

"Awake thou that sleepest"

Awake ! Arise! Leave sleep and dreams!
God's children know no dreaming;
There is no sin and suffering,
Where Truth and Love are beaming.

Awake! Arise! And you will find
All ills an empty seeming,
And that they melt to nothingness,
When you awake from dreaming.

Awake! Arise! Through all of space
God's angel-thoughts are winging;
You cannot hear the blessed truth
While you to dreams are clinging.

Awake! Arise! And grasp Truth's sword,
The doom of error sealing;
And pain and woe will surely cease
Before Truth's mighty healing.

Awake! Arise! And know that God,
Who for the world is caring,
Can never let His children want:
His image they are bearing.

Awake! Arise! And unto you,
The light of Christ appearing,
Now death and hell shall be destroyed,
With all of doubt and fearing.

Awake! Arise! And you shall see
No evil thing remaining;
Life, Truth, and Love omnipotent
Forevermore are reigning.

Awake! Arise! And hear the joy
That near and far is ringing;
If you but have the ear to hear,
You'll list to angels singing.
