An Impervious Armor

We read on page 210 of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" by Mrs. Eddy the beautiful words: "Good thoughts are an impervious armor; clad therewith you are completely shielded from the attacks of error of every sort. And not only yourselves are safe, but all whom your thoughts rest upon are thereby benefited." This is a wonderfully helpful statement; even to contemplate an armor of good thoughts conveys a great sense of security. No one as yet fully comprehends the power and strength of a right idea. So accustomed were we to let wrong thoughts run away with us that until the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was given to the world, we had not perceived that it is for us to reject those thoughts which bring no good to any one, and to entertain in their place only divine Mind's spiritual ideas, which bless and comfort all.

In proportion as the habit of watching one's thoughts is acquired, is one's nature undergoing a change. And it is then one begins to feel the effects of Truth, and that "good thoughts are an impervious armor;" for one is reflecting the truth which gives the freedom and peace of God, good. By their fruits are true thoughts known. Nothing can turn a good thought astray. It may seem to be lost, but in reality it has never been touched. Years after a kindness has been shown some one by another, the outcome may appear. In its unobtrusive, humble manner, the kind thought, born of divine Love, often does its work unseen.

Many times one feels this gentle presence by a sudden uplift or a keen desire to be of service to others. What is this but an idea of good illuminating those who are ready to receive it, and not only ready to receive it, but to let it do its work by bringing forth more good, more glory to God, expressed in fuller work and greater right activity?
