It is with a deeply grateful heart that I express my gratitude for membership in The Mother Church. Looking back upon the years that have passed since the great truth of Christian Science came to me, I feel that from the first I did not doubt its healing power; and I do not doubt it to-day. Christian Science has brought Christ into the midst of us; and through Mary Baker Eddy's textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," all things are seen to be as possible to the Christ now as they were possible in Jesus' time.
When Christian Science found me I was under the treatment of an ear and nose specialist. I was obliged to go to his office every day, but did not get any relief. One day after he had treated my nose, he neglected to remove a second piece of absorbent cotton. I suffered intensely for two days without knowing the cause, and in my distress I turned to the Bible. I read about the woman who touched Christ's garment. I felt the power of that faith. All of a sudden I began to cough and the cause of the trouble dropped into my throat. I was fortunate at the time to live with a woman who was interested in Christian Science. I told her about it the moment it happened, and I decided then and there to turn from the specialist to Christian Science. Within a week, after daily visits to a practitioner, I was healed of a trouble that according to the specialist's judgment was doomed to last an indefinite period. I then said to myself that if God could do one thing, God could do all things; that Christian Science should either mean everything to me or nothing. There could, then, be no compromise. I removed glasses I had worn for over fifteen years. I removed a bandage of adhesive plaster which I was advised to wear to raise my digestive organs. I resolved to eat everything I was supposed to avoid; and I passed from the clouds of so-called mortal law into the sunshine of God's truth. It is true that during the past five years I have had to face many a test. Error has presented itself in phases that never came to me before, but the guidance received through Mrs. Eddy's textbook showed that they had come to the surface to be destroyed. I remember well how eager I was to become a member of a Christian Science church, and how much I regretted that I was past the age of admittance to the Sunday school. A loving practitioner has helped me to overcome much and to understand much, always pointing to Mrs. Eddy's teachings, which in turn point to those of Christ Jesus, the Way-shower.
I am so grateful for the understanding of the Bible gained through the reading and study of the textbook and all of Mrs. Eddy's other writings. I love the Bible now, and I bless Mrs. Eddy for the spiritual light she has spread upon it. Through it we can feel that Christ, Truth, is with us always, even in the midst of noise and crowds, if we are but willing to preserve a childlike trust, knowing that in spite of the strongest evidences to mortal sense, there is only one Life, one God, one law.
