Will you allow me space in your paper to make a few comments upon an article carried in a recent issue? This article dealt with the necessity for physical diagnosis and warned parents to be on the lookout constantly for any slightest symptom of disease in their offspring. The writer further remarked: "Our Christian Science friends say that pain is evil, but it isn't. Pain is the body's danger signal." If pain is not evil, it must be good, but no right thinking person could possibly entertain such a paradoxical belief. No one on earth to-day will dispute the great fact that Christ Jesus was the greatest physician that the world has ever known. In no instance did he ask about the symptoms of disease, or warn his patients to search for physical causes for their ailments. On the contrary, in his matchless Sermon on the Mount, he counseled his hearers to have no concern about the body. He knew that there was no cause for disease outside of the human thought, and that this thought could manifest only sin, sickness, and death when it believed itself separated from God. His mission on earth was to bring to mortals the knowledge that a right understanding of God, the great cause and creator of all, heals every discordant condition and destroys even death itself.

Mary Baker Eddy, Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, has given to the world a textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," which explains fully and clearly the Science of Christian healing, as demonstrated by Jesus. Her students throughout the world are proving that Jesus' system, though opposed to all forms of material medicine, is as efficacious now as it was during his ministry on earth. Mrs. Eddy writes on page 170 of the textbook: "The demands of Truth are spiritual, and reach the body through Mind. The best interpreter of man's needs said: 'Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink.' If there are material laws which prevent disease, what then causes it? Not divine law, for Jesus healed the sick and cast out error, always in opposition, never in obedience, to physics."
