A few years ago I began to have trouble with my right...
A few years ago I began to have trouble with my right side. I went to three doctors. The first doctor said I had the beginning of a rupture, the second said that the appendix muscles had been strained, and the third said there was nothing wrong; and this, the last, if I had listened to God, was the truth. But I kept getting worse, and the attacks finally became so bad that they began to interfere with my work. They kept up for about a year, so I finally went to a fourth doctor, who said I would have to undergo an operation for appendicitis. It seemed as if I had done everything that I could, so I consented and had the operation. That was in 1923. About three weeks after the operation I was on the verge of what is called a nervous breakdown. Then they began to give me medicine, and for nearly four months I took from three to nine doses of medicine every day; but the more medicine I took the worse I grew. My condition finally got so bad that I wanted to do away with myself, and the evil suggestions that presented themselves were awful.
The fear became so great that I was afraid to trust myself alone, and at times I thought I would go insane. I had gone so far as to imagine that a doctor had come to take me before an insanity board. My doctor finally admitted that he did not know what to do for me, so he finally directed me to Christian Science.
Now I know that God had been with me all the way, as we read in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. When all material means have failed us, we finally turn to our loving Father-Mother God. Since taking up Christian Science and clinging steadfastly to this Father-Mother, as the teaching of our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, shows us how to do, I have overcome many discords in a very short time.
