Among the Churches

Washington, District of Columbia (Third Church). —Third Church of Christ, Scientist, has purchased the edifice formerly used by the Church of Our Father, Universalist, at Thirteenth and L Streets, and, after extensive remodeling, will occupy the structure. Eight years ago Third Church was organized to provide a downtown church for Christian Scientists. During all but a few months of that period services have been held in the Masonic Auditorium at Thirteenth Street and New York Avenue. The new move is made to assure the congregation its own permanent downtown location. The other three local Christian Science churches, branches of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, are in residential sections.
It is planned to renovate completely the interior of the edifice, installing new chairs, new organ, new furnishings, lighting, heating, and other modern equipment. The seating capacity will be more than nine hundred persons. The alterations will require several months. The exterior of the building also will be improved ultimately, by stuccoing or otherwise.
The Sunday school will be provided for in a basement to be dug under the entire structure. This will permit simultaneous services in the church and Sunday school. Rooms for the board of trustees, for committees, and for those who conduct the services will be included in the plans.—Evening Star.
