Signs of the Times

[Rev. H. C. Culbertson, in the Los Angeles Examiner, California]

No quarter century in history has seen greater moral and spiritual progress than that through which we have just passed. The unsettling due to the World War with the resulting demand for national readjustments, new beginnings and higher ideals, the awakening conscience of mankind, the growing demand for interracial brotherliness and fair dealing, the new hopes for Christianizing industry, the coming together of churches and the progress of religious and scientific thought, and the magnificent achievements toward getting rid of the curse of liquor, all mark this as an era of splendid and enduring progress. Just now we are on the defensive against a furious attack to nullify the prohibition amendment. Let us rally without compromise. Whatever is right can be done and must be done in the name of God and humanity.... Let us highly resolve that neither in this nor in any other regard shall we take a backward step.
