Christian Science is a great blessing to me
Christian Science is a great blessing to me. Through the revelation of Truth in Mrs. Eddy's works I have learned the purpose of living, have gained a sure and certain sense of what constitutes friendship, which I felt sadly lacking, and have begun to know my duty towards my neighbor. I have learned not to outline for myself, for when we are really seeking good, God gives us our heart's desire.
Before I was so lovingly led and became conscious of the regenerative influence of the divine Mind, it was ever the unattainable, insolvable, or irreconcilable, with its train of injustice or resentment, that presented itself in my experience; and although the familiar statement, "The Bible is the chart of life," and an ardent desire for something better were present with me from childhood, ideals could never be lived up to, and I felt sadly astray. When Christian Science came to me I recognized my need of it. I accepted the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, as the correct interpretation of the Bible which I had been always looking for; but the understanding of the truths contained therein and in Mrs. Eddy's other works came only as I began to prove through a moral and spiritual awakening that the Scriptural direction, "A man's foes shall be they of his own household," applied only to the erroneous belief of foes in one's own thinking. Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, also said, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."
For the many proofs of God's care I am truly thankful. Christian Science came to me showing me the uselessness of material remedies, which in my experience I had learned to dread; and the constant desire to know the truth about God and my relation to Him has brought healing of many ills, or false habits of thinking, including a form of rheumatism with various attending limitations and disorders which I had had ever since I could remember. I had been told that, as this complaint was constitutional in my case, I could never be free from it or its results. This healing, though slow, was sure, and came when I began to rejoice exceedingly in some understanding of our Leader's words in Science and Health (p. 233), "Progress is the law of God, whose law demands of us only what we can certainly fulfil."
