"Love fulfils the law"
A STUDENT , young in Christian Science, once found herself confronted by a problem which seemed to involve much of error — ill health, unhappiness, and a seeming lack of harmony. With a deep longing and a fervent desire to meet this problem through the understanding of Christian Science, she picked up the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy; and as it fell open she read these words on page 572: "Love fulfils the law of Christian Science." She read and reread the words, and pondered them in her heart until gradually the light dawned and she felt that she had indeed touched the hem of Christ's garment. A wonderful sense of peace and assurance filled her consciousness, crowding out the picture of error which before had seemed so real.
What is this law of Christian Science which divine Love always fulfills? Is it not the law of good? If so, then the law must include within itself health, happiness, and harmony. And since divine Love fulfills the law of Christian Science, our part must be to take all our problems trustingly to divine Love, knowing beyond the shadow of a doubt that the law of good will be fulfilled. How simple and perfect is this wonderful law of Christian Science which divine Love always fulfills!
We should indeed be grateful for these words of our Master, Christ Jesus: "Except ye . . . become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven;" for as little children we can all turn to our Father-Mother God in childlike faith and selfless love, knowing that our every need will be met. It may not always be in just the way we have outlined, but it certainly will be in the perfect way of God's appointing. With our Leader we can learn that "those who know no will but His take His hand, and from the night He leads to light" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 347). In our journey from sense to Soul, if sometimes our way seems to be through thorny and unknown paths, even so, our only need is to "be still, and know that I am God," thus allowing divine Love to bring into our lives the peace, joy, and harmony promised us.
