When Christian Science came to me a little over fifteen...
When Christian Science came to me a little over fifteen years ago, I knew that prayer is answered. That God is divine Mind, and that there is but one Mind, appealed to me as the solution for every problem. I did not doubt that Christian Science is the truth and the only way out of our difficulties. I was carried to the top of the mountain, but I must needs come down into the valley to prove in some degree the revelation that had come to me. This meant to human sense a struggle, but, withal, a joy and freedom I had never known before.
I did not take up the study of Christian Science primarily for physical healing, although I had always been considered frail. But I began to put the teachings of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, to the test; for I felt that I could not persuade others that it was the truth unless I could prove it for myself. I laid aside glasses which I had worn for about four years, although I had been told I should have worn them long before I did. At the time I secured the I was suffering from sharp pains in my eyes. I discarded all medicine. I had taken medicine daily for many years for chronic indigestion and its attendant ills brought on by nervousness. But what I am most grateful for is the spiritual light which has dawned upon my though and the consciousness that God is; that He is a God at hand, ever present and always available.
I am grateful for class instruction and for our church activities. As we press on in our study and practice of Christian Science we grasp more of the meaning of God's omnipotence. In the words of the Psalmist, "I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved."
