A few years ago I took up the study of Christian Science
A few years ago I took up the study of Christian Science. Until that time I had never been to a Christian Science church, heard a lecture on the subject, or read any of its literature, and rather ridiculed the idea that any one could be healed or helped in any way through its teachings. Several years ago, while I was studying at a dramatic school and working on my graduation studies, my health apparently failed. After consulting several doctors and a specialist, I went away for a few months' rest and seemed to be helped; but on my return to the city the same conditions came back. I tried more doctors, and finally submitted to an operation, after which I continued to grow worse.
The family physician advised a change and we came to California. While in Los Angeles an acquaintance at the hotel, observing my condition, spoke to me of Christian Science. I had become so desperate that I was willing to try anything. Doubting that I would be helped, I went to see a practitioner. After the first treatment I felt greatly relieved, and I slept better that night than I had for months. I continued the treatments, began attending church and studying the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, with the result that I was entirely healed. Since then I have been healed of sore throat and constipation, from which I had suffered for years. Christian Science has changed my entire outlook on life, and has given me a God not to fear, but to love.
The periodicals have helped me wonderfully. When I read them I always find some passage that remains fixed in my thought to help me when conditions seem inharmonious. I am indeed grateful to Mrs. Eddy for working so unselfishly to give to the world a religion so beautiful and demonstrable as Christian Science.
