Several years ago I was operated on for what was said to be an incurable growth. It was thought I might not recover and would soon be back in the hospital again. Within a few weeks I was also operated on for headaches, from which I was a constant sufferer. I was home but a few weeks from the hospital, still under a physician's care, when my condition became worse, with fear, self-pity, dark sleepless nights, and a great sense of financial lack added. I was unable to attend to my family or any home duties, as standing on my feet for only a few moments greatly aggravated my condition. I constantly turned to the Bible for comfort, only to find what seemed to me a mass of contradictions.
However, at the end of a year of this searching I was very wonderfully led to the home of Christian Scientists. It was there that a few words quoted from the Scriptures caused me to ponder. While pondering these words I was lent the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and was asked to read the chapter on Prayer, which was so simply stated and easy to understand that I realized that here indeed was the truth for which I had been seeking. Immediately I began to put it into practice, reading constantly day and night. I very quickly found a great change taking place in my physical condition, also in the members of my family and in our finances. I began to spend long days in joyous activity about my home, without a trace of the former symptoms.
Many beautiful healings followed quickly and permanently. Two members of my family were healed to chronic bowel trouble, having previously dieted and tried all kinds of laxative foods without benefit. One was healed by a practitioner in one treatment; another was healed when medicine was relinquished. A third member, witnessing these healings, was also healed. One of my children was healed of chronic, delirious fever in a few moments through the understanding which I had gained; chilblains also left her feet. These are only a few of the blessings which we have experienced in our home as a result of the teachings of Christian Science. I have also been able to help others. On one occasion a little child was healed who had come to spend the day at our home while suffering from whooping cough, having been sent home by the school physician several weeks previously. No treatment was asked, the healing simply taking place through the members of our family protecting our home against the belief of contagion. The following day a message was received lovingly acknowledging this healing.
