The Lectures
Introductions to Lectures
Buffalo, New York (First Church).
Lecturer: Frank Bell; introduced by Peter S. Johnston, who said:—
In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 298), Mrs. Eddy refers to "angels" as "pure thoughts from God, winged with Truth and Love, no matter what their individualism may be." Christian Science is truly the angel of His presence, bringing its messages of health, happiness, joy, and prosperity to thousands, as many here can testify. Christian Science is the revelation of spiritual Truth to this age. It is the second appearing of the Christ, dispelling from human experience the illusions of the physical senses, the doubts and fears of ignorance and superstition, the false beliefs of material education and human theories; and it is revealing the kingdom of heaven on earth, enabling us to enjoy, in this state of existence, the bliss and glory which most of us have been taught to expect only after we have passed beyond this plane. Surely, as the Master said, "The kingdom of heaven is at hand;" and that the world may sooner realize this divine ever-presence and acknowledge God's supremacy on earth, Mrs. Eddy established as an activity of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, The Christian Science Board of Lectureship. When studying the Apocalypse, these words of the Revelator have often come to me: "And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people." A Christian Science lecture is, indeed, a divine message, "winged with Truth and Love," an angel clothed in human language which you and I may understand.
