Our Periodicals

In founding her religious movement, the purpose of which should be the evangelization of all mankind, Mrs. Eddy provided various instrumentalities as vehicles of the healing Word. Prominent among these are the Christian Science periodicals, established at different times to meet the needs of the rapidly growing field.

The relation of Christian Scientists to the periodicals is threefold, entailing duties unique in their obligations and privileges, which carry in their exercise the possibilities of boundless blessings. Except in the case of The Christian Science Monitor, members of The Mother Church furnish the bulk of the material which fills the pages of the periodicals. In every issue of the Christian Science Sentinel, the contributed articles, selected articles, lecture introductions, letter from the field, news from the churches, and testimonies—all are supplied by the field; while many of the "Signs of the Times" items are submitted by individual Christian Scientists throughout the civilized world. An even greater proportion of each issue of The Christian Science Journal is furnished by members of The Mother Church. Practically all the literary content of our monthly magazine, except the editorials, is contributed by the field; and as the Heralds contain only articles that have appeared in the Sentinel and Journal, the same is likewise true of our foreign language periodicals.

While, to be sure, the work of preparing the entire content of our periodicals devolves upon the Editorial Department, yet the fact that this content for the most part originates with the members of The Mother Church, constitutes a bond of interest between Christian Scientists and the periodicals which is positively unique in the field of periodical literature. The pages of our weekly and monthlies are open channels whereby the beneficiaries of Christian Science may share with the whole world the blessings which have come to them through the healing touch of the Christ, Truth.
