Christian Science has been my only physician and almost...

Christian Science has been my only physician and almost my only helper for about eleven years, and has never failed to give relief. A notable demonstration was the healing of a weak ankle, which had been strained first in 1892, and again every few years, usually disabling me for many days or even weeks. The last time it was injured I was forced to make my own demonstration, and through the application of Christian Science overcame the difficulty in a few minutes; and I have never had any further trouble with the ankle. I also chopped the end of my thumb through the "quick," without pain. I lost only three days from work; and the wound healed in about twelve days.

I was piling lumber in a planing mill five or six feet from the floor, when the material fell, pushing me down to the floor, and a large quantity of board fell on me. While the lumber was still falling all around me, I was able to stand up in the midst of it; but when I tried to escape, I found that one leg gave way under me, between the knee and the ankle. Seeing my predicament, two of the men ran and half carried me out of danger. I was considerably dazed and bruised, but proceeded with my work in a few minutes. I was puzzled to know why my leg had supported me immediately, until one of the workers who was a Christian Scientist told me that he had declared that man was made in God's image and likeness, that God was my life, and that He was a very present help. The leg was quite sore for about four days.

Recently, through a collision of some freight cars, a closing door very seriously lacerated my hand, nearly severing the middle finger. I was able to finish the job of two or three hours, though the pain did not cease till I got home and studied my books awhile. I opened the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," at page 113, where Mrs. Eddy makes the statement, "There is no pain in Truth, and no truth in pain." I realized that there could be no pain in matter, and it ceased instantly; and the healing was rapid.
