We have indeed much to be thankful for since becoming students of Christian Science; and each day brings forth added proof of its efficacy, not only as a protection, but as a preventive and healer of all discordant conditions.

Our little daughter, when four years old, was playing with a neighbor's dog. In some way she must have fallen upon him, for he turned and buried his teeth in her face twice, making deep gashes. She was brought home by the owner of the dog, who seemed to be greatly frightened. As the child's face was in a deplorable condition, for an instant a chill of fear ran through me; but immediately thoughts of Truth flooded my consciousness, fear left, and I was able quietly to calm the child. She quickly reflected the effects of the love expressed in the calmness and fearlessness around her and ceased crying almost at once, as we repeated to her words of truth and assured her all was well. We asked the neighbor to leave us for a while, telling her she could help the child best by just knowing that God is Love and that He was caring for the child and no harm could result.

We washed the little one's face and, after putting small pieces of absorbent cotton upon the lacerated portions, tied a bandage about her head so that the cuts could not be seen. We then telegraphed a practitioner. For a time the child seemed to fall into a stupor, but in about half an hour she aroused herself and asked for food. Her face was somewhat swollen and she could not eat, but took a little milk; then she went to sleep and slept peacefully all night with no discomfort whatever. In the morning we removed the bandage and found that the swelling had disappeared and there was no discoloration whatever. She ate a good breakfast and went out on her velocipede. Upon inquiries from her playmates and our relatives as to what was the matter, she could not be coaxed into telling them anything, for she understood that God's child is eternally perfect and there is nothing which can harm, deface, or mar the perfect reflection of God. One of the very beautiful manifestations of the work done in this demonstration and of the child's understanding and application of truth was that within fifteen hours after the above occurrence she again saw the dog and immediately went to him and, putting her arms around his neck, said, "You didn't mean to do it, Sandy, did you?" For an instant the owner of the dog was very fearful, but I said, "She is all right; there is nothing to fear—Love will protect her."
