Announcement of Trusteeships for The Christian Science Benevolent Association and Pleasant View Home
To give The Christian Science Board of Directors more time for duties that cannot be delegated to others, certain changes have been made in the mode of conducting The Christian Science Benevolent Association and The Christian Science Pleasant View Home, which are two trusteeships formed by The Mother Church in accordance with Section 8 of Article I of the Church Manual.
Until now, each of these auxiliary institutions has had a Board of Trustees consisting of the same individuals who are Directors of The Mother Church. Now, the by-laws of these institutions have been amended so that each of them has its own Board of three Trustees whose duties are similar to those of the Trustees of The Christian Science Publishing Society. Accordingly, the members of this Board have retired from these trusteeships, and have been succeeded by three newly appointed trustees, namely, Miss Mary G. Ewing, C. S. B., of Chicago, who has been for some years a member of The Christian Science Board of Lectureship, Mr. Ezra W. Palmer, C. S. B., of Boston, now Clerk of The Mother Church, and Mr. George L. Sleeper, C. S., of Boston, Manager of the Construction and Maintenance Department of The Mother Church and Manager of the Literature Distribution Committee of The Mother Church. These three individuals constitute the Board of Trustees of each of these institutions, which are distinct corporations, the first being organized under the law of Massachusetts, while the second is organized under the law of New Hampshire.
As The Christian Science Benevolent Association and The Christian Science Pleasant View Home are now organized, the Directors of The Mother Church retain control of them through membership in their corporate bodies and through powers of appointment and removal.
