Referring to an address discussing the question of Jews...

Standard-Sentinel

Referring to an address discussing the question of Jews leaving the faith of their fathers for "social ambition and social prestige" and joining the Christian Scientists, reported in your recent issue, kindly permit me to say that, as Christian Scientists, we have no inclination at all to defend such action. We venture to say that such deserters or adherents can hardly be considered a loss on the one hand or a gain on the other, unless numbers or monetary support are considered as such. But certainly such support has no more merit than social ambitions when weighed in the scale of righteousness. There are quite other reasons, however, why thousands of Jews are coming to Christian Science, even though Christian Scientists do not try to separate them from their other brethren. There is no power on earth that will prevent them from coming; for they can readily see that Christian Scientists are getting incomparably more out of Bible teaching than their "orthodox" brethren. And as the divine Principle of Christian Science dawns upon their understanding, they are further drawn thereto, and conscientiously so, by the assuring conviction that Christian Science will ultimately—is even now—restoring the beauty of Israel and the glory of her prophets; that it will unite all people in one grand brotherhood, and in the worship of one God in spirit and in truth. That all people will some day unite and march under one religious banner is almost universally desired; and that desire, truly entertained, will make its realization inevitable. Christian Science is gradually bringing this about; and this is ground only for great rejoicing. It already includes in its ranks all classes of people.

There are many wrong impressions of Christian Science given to the public. Christian Science is not a "pantheistic cult," as alleged. It is the Science of Spirit and the very opposite of pantheism. God being Spirit and infinite, He cannot be in so-called matter. In the address given, it is said in substance that Christian Science healing does not include organic diseases. Now, why limit thus the God of Israel, "who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases"? The error of the ages has consisted in limiting God. Christian Science has healed all manner of diseases and other wrong conditions of mankind, poverty included. It is the understanding of God that heals in Christian Science. Cures from any other source are not Christian Science healing.
