Several years ago I came into Christian Science. Dear acquaintances showed me the way when I was passing through a period of mental agony and despair.

One day I received news from the front that my husband was missing. My children were still young; and as I was always sick, I was afraid to go on living. In my despair I went to a Christian Science practitioner, who treated me with so much love and kindness that I gained courage and confidence again. The Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was given to me as a Christmas present, and this made me very happy. The Bible and the textbook were my faithful companions. My way began to lead forward; I read the Christian Science Lesson-Sermons daily, and learned to recognize that God is Life and Love, that Life is Spirit, and that God is the supporter of and the provider for His children. Divine Love has been a kind and faithful provider in every case, so that I feel as if I could never give thanks enough. It has also been a true protector, for it has kept me from all evil; and that which did not belong to me has fallen from me.

A short time ago I had a beautiful proof of the healing power of Truth. One day I suffered a bitter disappointment. Error became so great that I faltered, and instead of relying steadfastly on God, good, I gave way to hatred and contempt towards others. The moment I gave way to error I was attacked with such severe pain in the stomach and liver that I could hardly move. I went to bed in this inharmonious condition and awoke with the same pain the next day. Every movement caused me great suffering; but I could not stay in bed, because I had to attend to my work. I now realized that I, as a child of God, must reflect love, that I had nothing in common with hatred and contempt, and I saw all held in God's love. When this became clear to me, I was immediately free from all pain. I am sincerely grateful to our Father-Mother God for this understanding; for the spiritual uplift; and for all the blessings we have received in our daily life.
