For some time I have intended to send a testimony to...
For some time I have intended to send a testimony to express my deep gratitude for the wonderful new life of wholeness and peace which Christian Science has opened out for me. At the birth of my little son I was lovingly helped by a Christian Science nurse and practitioner, and Paul's promise was wonderfully proved: "She [woman] shall be save in childbearing." All was harmonious, as even the doctor in attendance admitted. This demonstration has impressed many not in Science, who knew me in the past when to mortal sense I was a complete coward, highstrung and unable to bear the slightest pain.
Since I came into Science more than seven mental evils have been cast out of my consciousness; and while this work was going on, physical ills, such as regular attacks of influenza colds, which before had confined me to bed for three days practically every few weeks, left me. From childhood I had been accustomed to take regular doses of medicine and had come to rely on these, but, to my alarm, just before Christian Science entered my life they seemed to be losing their power and to be leaving me in a worse state than before. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy was, in this case as in all others, the key to the door of freedom; and I have never had a dose of medicine from that day to this.
It would be impossible to recount in the space given to testimonies all the physical cures and other demonstrations of divine omnipotence that I have experienced. And, though unspeakably thankful for all these material blessings, I find, like many other students, the greatest joy in the spiritual freedom into which Christian Science leads us, releasing us from the awful bondage of our mortal desires and harmful passions. It is indeed a rebirth, and a revelation of God's nature for which we can never be sufficiently grateful to its exponent, Christ Jesus, and to Mrs. Eddy, who brought his teaching out of the obscurity into which it had fallen through mistaken creeds and dogmas, and illumined it with the light of perfect spiritual understanding.
