I am most grateful for the healing of our youngest son
I am most grateful for the healing of our youngest son. He was a strong, healthy boy of sixteen, in good work, when he was seized with rheumatism, and at times he could not move his legs or arms without help. I asked for Christian Science treatment from a practitioner, and it was lovingly given, so that soon he seemed to recover. Often during this time I had to get up during the night and read to him from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. One night when I was tired and my throat was painful, I was healed while reading aloud. When he was better, a holiday was arranged for him. On his return he was again taken ill, and as he appeared indifferent to Christian Science it was thought advisable to send for a doctor, who diagnosed the case as St. Vitus's dance. After the doctor's visit the point had been reached, "Choose you this day whom ye will serve." My son chose Christian Science treatment, and a practitioner was called in. The following day my husband met the doctor, who said he could do nothing whatever for my son.
When I sat with the boy at night I read the ninety-first psalm and repeated Mrs. Eddy's poem, "Mother's Evening Prayer" (Poems, pp. 4, 5). At first he said reading made him worse, but as I continued he would become calm and go to sleep. Though the sleepless nights ceased after a week or two, he became dumb, irresponsible, and helpless in every way; he was unable to feed himself or to keep from rolling on the floor. I constantly declared that God is the only intelligence. One dark day I picked up The Christian Science Monitor and read an article on the Home Forum page entitled, "This kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting," and it was a great help to me. The boy was healed within about eight months, and is now a strong, healthy lad performing strenuous work each day.
I am grateful to God, and to Mrs. Eddy for giving us this wonderful teaching, also for the patient and loving help of the practitioner.—(Mrs.) Elizabeth S. Townhill, Hull, Yorkshire, England.
