I should like to express my gratitude for the many benefits...

I should like to express my gratitude for the many benefits we have received in our home through Christian Science. One in particular, which I am very grateful for, was the healing of our little girl of diphtheria. I was quite young in Science at the time, and although I had received such wonderful help for myself, I had a great deal of fear for the child; so I sent for the doctor, who came and examined her, and diagnosed the case as diphtheria. We were very much worried about this, and were waiting for her to be taken to the hospital when I decided to send to a practitioner for help. About half an hour after this a nurse who had attended me at one time called to see me. She looked at my little girl's throat and said it was a bad case of diphtheria and she could not think what the doctor was doing, and added that we had better send for him again, which we did. The doctor, however, told my husband that the case was out of his hands, and that he was surprised to hear they had not taken the child away. About this time the practitioner gave a treatment. That night our little girl slept all through the night, and she seemed quite normal early the next morning. I looked at her throat and thought it was most wonderful: it was perfectly clear! She was quite healed. The doctor and the nurse both called during the morning and both were astounded. The doctor said he could not understand it, and although the child seemed quite well he thought we had better keep her in bed, as there might be complications. This, however, we did not do. She was able to get up, was quite well, and there were no complications of any sort; and she has never suffered with her throat in any way since. This was about seven years ago. I am most grateful for the loving help of the practitioner. I should like to say how wonderfully protected we all were at the time.

I should also like to express my gratitude for a healing I myself had with the help of the same practitioner. I had a very severe pain at the back of my head. I read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and worked as we are taught in Christian Science; but although I was able to go about and do my work, and was very much helped by my reading, the pain seemed to get worse. I could not lie down or bear to have my head touch anything, and I could not get any sleep. This went on for about a week; and as I was feeling very ill and dizzy I thought it better to ask for help. The practitioner gave me treatment, and I was able to lie down and get some sleep. It was just over a week before the pain had all gone. But I should like to say how much I was helped and uplifted during the time. Just before this I had been feeling very discontented, and felt that I wanted to go away for a holiday, but this did not seem possible. After the help I received I felt more refreshed and rested than I could ever have been with any material holiday.

I am most grateful for all the help I have received in Christian Science. I am very grateful to God and to Mrs. Eddy, and to the loving practitioners who have helped me at different times.—(Mrs.) Selina E. Lightfoot, Osney, Oxford, England.
