[Written for the Sentinel]

Angels

It may be they come in the morning,
It may be they come in the night,
It may be they come at the hour,
Or come with the waning light;
It may be they come when we 're watching,
It may be they come while we sleep;
But they come, oh, they come from the Father,
Who ever His vigil doth keep!

They come as they did to the shepherds:
"Fear not" is the message they bring,
Give "glory to God in the highest,"
This song of good tidings they sing.
To you and to all men good tidings—
The Word in the flesh doth appear;
The Word that is life dwells among us,
The Christ that redeems now is here.

They come as they did unto Jesus
And minister unto our need;
They come when in faith we're abiding,
And with heavenly food do us feed.
They come when in we're weeping;
They come whisp'ring softly, and say:
Look up, fear ye not, Christ is risen;
Behold, Love is with you alway!
