I have relied solely upon Christian Science for many...
I have relied solely upon Christian Science for many years to meet my human needs. It has healed me of disease and purified my life. It has given me a great and absorbing purpose in life, full of interest and joy—the purpose of obeying Christ's command, "Follow me." I find that I did not really have a purpose in life before I found Christian Science; that the only purpose worthy of man is to "let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus"—to "love God, and keep his commandments." The most useful and interesting thing in the world is the building of character based on obedience to the commandments of God; and we can begin right where we are. From the moment this thought was given to me by a loving practitioner, my steps have been upward. Until that time, I had been searching for some constructive work in which to express myself; but then I found I could express myself in loving thoughts and deeds, and that I should have plenty of employment. With the improvement of my spiritual condition, the added things have come. I now know these tender words of Jesus are true: "Your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ve ask him."
It is a glorious thing to be healed in Christian Science. The awakening of hope founded on the knowledge of God's presence and power and availability in our present life is what it meant to me. On page 1 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy says, "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love." Absolute faith in God and spiritual understanding of Him demonstrate harmony, and give us dominion over all that is unlike God. The law of God is supreme and infinite, and able to deliver from discordant conditions. Daily opportunities to prove this are afforded.
One instance of this proof in my experience is as follows: While we were visiting in a near-by city our little boy became ill. He had a headache, with nausea. It was about five o'clock in the afternoon when the condition came to my attention. I immediately began to declare the truth for him. My husband and I took him to dinner with us soon afterward. He did not order anything, feeling unable to eat, but when our dinner was served, he asked for a portion of it. He was looking ill, and my impulse was to say, "You do not need any dinner now." Following this thought, however, there came instantly the recollection of spiritual understanding and absolute faith, and that according to the law of God—which law is supreme—man's normal condition is perfection; and I said: "Go on and eat your dinner. Your condition is normal and perfect, and you need not be afraid or abandon any normal activity." His little face brightened, and he was at once in perfect health and ate a hearty dinner.
