Work
Work is a mental process; and our work is to let the divine Mind be reflected in us, to let that Mind be in us "which was also in Christ Jesus." How simple the words—to let Mind govern! Constant watching, however, is required, if we are always to prove man's at-one-ment with God.
Now, what is it that sometimes tries to separate us from God? It can be nothing real; for, as we know, God, good, fills all space. Is not, therefore, our work to reflect good, more and more, every moment of the day, in order thereby to keep in constant unity with infinite Mind, whose resources are unlimited?
Mrs. Eddy tells us in her Message to The Mother Church for 1900 (p. 2) that "the song of Christian Science is, 'Work—work—work—watch and pray.' " It is clear that our Leader saw the necessity of watching, praying, and working. Our work would not be complete, and therefore would not be real work, without watching and praying. The gardener who does his work conscientiously not only prepares the ground and sows the seed, but also, in order to obtain a satisfactory result, watches and protects it. Watching and praying are our means of defense and protection. The alert right thinker is constantly, through prayer, watching his thinking, accepting and giving out only those thoughts which come directly from the Father, and dismissing instantly any wrong thought, knowing, as he does, the unreality of whatever does not come from God.
