[Original testimony in German]
Jesus' words, "Seek, and ye shall find," led me to seek...
Jesus' words, "Seek, and ye shall find," led me to seek and find. When I was a thirteen-year-old boy, as the result of an accident I was taken seriously ill with inflammation of the hip joint. After I had been in a hospital under treatment for six months, I was discharged as better, but not well, and with the discouraging assurance that I should suffer a relapse. From that hour the fear of a relapse followed me like a shadow, and in a short time I broke down under the burden of this thought. I was again obliged to go to a hospital, and after nine months of conscientious treatment I was again discharged as unhealed. In order to be able to walk at all, I was obliged to wear an orthopedic apparatus. And so, at the age of eighteen, I was to agree to say farewell to health and happiness.
But one thing had remained with me, and that was a childlike faith in God. After the early death of my parents the yearning for inner peace was greater than the longing for health, for I believed that sickness was God's will. Through continual study of the New Testament I at last perceived that the cloud which prevented me from finding inward peace was gradually clearing away, until one day a freedom before unknown was revealed to me. At my request a Christian Scientist, not knowing that according to sense testimony I was seriously ill, told me, in the course of a half hour's conversation, something about Christian Science. In this half hour I was indeed granted a glimpse into the Holy of Holies, and as much as my power of comprehension permitted I recognized God as good only, as Father and Mother, and man's relationship to Him as always perfect. My heart's yearning was instantaneously silenced; and during the conversation I was able to entertain so many angels that as a natural result I took off the apparatus and never put it on again. These angels have remained with me, for I was healed; and for more than seven years I have enjoyed good health. My leg, which had become two inches shorter than the other, was normal again in a very short time. For nine months the Christian Science Sunday School sowed its holy seeds in my consciousness, and taught me to commit the guidance of my life in every respect to the care of divine Love.
I love Christian Science, and I thank God that He permitted it to become the whole purport of my life.
