Working With Joy

Work in the sunny hours,
Work in the day;
Let night-time be for resting,
Forego the anxious questing
That burns 'neath wakeful eyes;
Sleep, and at morn arise
For work in sunny hours;
Work in the day.

Let not the sun go down
On any wrath.
Amend each day's distresses,
Let peace that heals and blesses
Bestow refreshing dew
Till kindness lives anew;
Let not the sun go down
On any wrath.

To God's love be awake,
Alert to pray.
Love's answers never tarry,
What if the adversary
Weary himself to plan
Ill for the righteous man—
To God's love be awake,
Alert to pray.
