[Written for the Sentinel]

Assurance

Yes, weary one, Truth is for thee!
And it will heal and set thee free;
No shadow of a sinful past
Can blight upon true being cast.

Thy trembling steps are at the door
Which leads to peace forevermore;
Love's tender voice bids thee make bold
To claim thy place within Christ's fold.

Thy humble, earnest heart God knows;
He pities, heeds, and heals thy woes.
Close as a circlet of pure gold
Unending Love doth thee enfold.

The tatters of material sense
Give place to robes of righteousness;
With gospel peace thy feet are shod,
To do the bidding of thy God.
