[Written for the Sentinel]

The Voice of God

God speaks to us in myriad ways,—
In little things that fill our days,
In loving glance from kindly eyes,
And words that help us to be wise.

God speaks to us in happy things,
In children's joy and bird that sings,
In summer rain and sunshine's gold,
And in the flowers we see unfold.

God speaks to us in glowing skies,
In twilight soft and stars that rise,
And in the sweet dew-laden breeze,
And voice of wind amid the trees.

God's loving voice we always hear,
If we but heed, and know He's near;
Through every day, where'er we go,
His voice is speaking, soft and low.

Dear, tender voice that thrills the heart,
That doth His perfect peace impart,
Let us be grateful and rejoice
That always we may hear His voice.
