The following testimony is given in all sincerity, and with the hope that there may be a helpful thought in it for some one.

When a child, typhoid fever seemed to leave me frail and subject to many ailments, among which were spells that caused much suffering. I cannot name these or state the cause; for none of the physicians consulted could do that or give more than temporary relief from the pain.

In my native state these distressing periods came on once or twice a year; but after I came West they were manifested every week and were very severe. I had the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, but knew very little about it; however, I had read enough to cause me to decide that I wanted no more medicine. But, owing to the solicitude of my brother, I often permitted him to call a doctor. During a very severe attack he asked if he should go for the doctor. I told him that I did not want one, but if he would feel any better for it he might get one. The doctor came and did just as his predecessors had done,—administered a hypodermic injection. The second day following, he came again and asked if he might bring me some medicine. My reply was, "No, doctor; I don't want any medicine." He insisted, saying, "But you will have another spell if you don't take it." "Yet," I said, "I know that I will; but if I could do as I want I would never have another, for I would write for a Christian Science practitioner." The doctor in all kindness persisted, and my brother united with him in urging me to take the medicine; and with that my consent was given. Whatever it was, it had no more effect than so much water. There was another spell, and again my brother wanted to call a physician, but I positively refused; and as soon as I was able I wrote to a practitioner. Just as my brother was leaving the house to take the letter to the post office the words, "You are healed," came clearly to my consciousness, and I stood meditating if it could possibly be true. It was true. This occurred more than twelve years ago, and there has never been the slightest evidence of the trouble since. Sometimes just to take a stand for Truth brings the proof of God's healing power.
