[Original testimony in German]
Many years before I heard of Christian Science I suffered...
Many years before I heard of Christian Science I suffered from temporary attacks of great anxiety and depression. This condition grew worse through the late war. Since 1889 I have occupied the position of first violoncello player in a large orchestra in Switzerland. During my vacation in 1900 I undertook a journey to my home country, Germany, to see if possibly I might find some rural occupation. However, finding that there, too, all is not gold that glitters, I returned somewhat more satisfied. Through various sports in which I engaged, the condition of fear was somewhat diverted from the body; but it never entirely left me. Consequently, in 1914, upon the advice of a doctor who said I was suffering from so-called violin player's cramp, I took a three months' leave of absence; but after that time my condition was worse than before.
Just then one of my colleagues told me he would give me something to read; that I had fear, which must be cast out. What he gave me was a copy of Der Herold der Christian Science, which I eagerly began to study. A Christian Science practitioner lovingly began treatment; and I shall never forget the wonderful impression which the first testimony meeting made upon me. Opposite me were the words, "God is Love," which welcomed me. Up to that time I had not known this; but now I know and have experienced it. Later I read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, as well as many beautiful Herolds. All this brought about such an improvement that I forgot all about the "fiddler's cramp." I also began to study the English language, and thereby gained an insight into Mrs. Eddy's wonderful writings.
In 1918 I had a rather violent attack of the grippe, but through the treatments of a Christian Science practitioner I was well again in three weeks. On this occasion an old, quite persistent throat trouble disappeared. The same treatments also healed me of double rupture in a very short time.
