Capital

Our friend, your contributor, spoke of the physicians attending a prominent Englishman who recently passed away as placing before their patient printed statements expressing hope for his recovery but without the expected results. Concluding his article, the writer said, "Mind may be stronger than matter, but you must appeal to it in time." From this the uninformed reader might assume that Christian Scientists depend on mortal mind as an agency to be employed in their practice, whereas they repudiate it, declaring it to be powerless. Christian Scientists consider it much kinder to offer encouragement to the disheartened or sick than to add to their burden, but they place no reliance whatever on mortal mind's suggestions for removing burdens or healing the sick. Christian Science acknowledges God, divine Mind, as the only Mind, and it is by wholly relying on the operation of the one infinite Mind that adherents of this teaching find discords dispelled and harmony restored.
