Shortly before I heard of Christian Science, when I was...

Shortly before I heard of Christian Science, when I was reading one day the "Meditations of Marcus Aurelius," I was arrested by a passage to the effect that without a knowledge of things divine, we must fail in our behavior towards men. I suddenly saw that my own sense of failure and suffering was due to want of this knowledge. Very soon after, the teachings of Christian Science were explained to me, and I grasped it as the knowledge I needed for an everyday working basis. Physically, Christian Science has done wonders for me, extreme nervous exhaustion and many other unhappy conditions having been overcome; but I am seeing more and more clearly that improvement of every name and nature is just the natural outcome of putting into daily practice one's growing knowledge of things divine. One cannot be too grateful to Mrs. Eddy for restoring to humanity the practical import of the teachings of Jesus and of the Bible generally.

I greatly value the privileges derived from membership in The Mother Church, from class instruction, and from the authorized Christian Science literature, which, from the first moment it came into my hands, has been a never failing source of comfort and inspiration. Bitter experiences I have had in abundance, but Mrs. Eddy's teaching has taken the sting out of them all, and enabled me to see them in their true light,—as opportunities to go forward.
